Iga

Known since ancient times as the land of ninja, Iga is also well-known as a town with a famous history, the birthplace of the famous Haiku poet Matsuo Basho. The remains of Ueno Castle and the [Ninja House], constructed as a thatched-roof farmhouse, are in Ueno Park, and you can also experience being a ninja. Iga also boasts of being a gourmet area, with wine cellars filled with numerous local sake and Iga beef, a regional specialty. Beautiful natural scenery, such as the [Akame Shijuhattaki Falls], also provide a feast for the eyes, and in the autumn foliage season, many hikers flock to Nabari.
